I have neglected my friendship with my sexy eldest vampire. We haven’t been communicating effectively, and I’m not solely to blame. He wouldn’t talk to me, wouldn’t visit me. But NANO forced my hand and like Adele’s lyrics in Someone Like You said:
I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited but I couldn’t stay away I couldn’t fight it. I had hoped you’d see my face and that you’d be reminded that for me, it isn’t over.
And so I intruded on his privacy, stalking him, spying on him, probing him with questions. It’s November, and that’s National Novel Writing Month. Thankfully, he eventually came around, and now, we’re on more than speaking terms. He’s let me in again, and I have full discussions about who he’s dating, how his sex life is going, you know, the sordid little details that must make up a paranormal romance novel.
Donnie even came out of hiding this month to reintroduce herself. She’s as sassy as ever and
seems to have found a bit of self esteem because she’s bossing the Boss Man around and they are having a grand old time…except it has to end. That’s what Nik believes. You know how it is? It can’t be sunshine and roses all the time and well, the happy couple are bound to encounter some hurdles. I’m concerned that he might stop talking to me again when I give Donnie full permission to push his buttons, however, and that will put my relationship with Nik on a perilous path.
But, if he won’t cooperate, maybe Donnie will. She certainly isn’t shying away from seducing Nik after I gave her a wink and nod. I think she might make this temporary cooling off period nearly impossible for him. It’s what he thinks he wants. He’s forgotten that rules are made to broken. And I’m going to help her break them.
I’ve had this book in my kindle for a long time, at least over six months. I finally got around to reading it and I was blown away! The romance was good, the sex was great, but what I really loved was how vampirism is explained. Terrific.
So here it goes. We have Darcy. I never cared for that name, but it means dark. I didn’t know that, so suddenly Darcy seems cooler by far. She is married and loves her life, up until her husband turns out to be a cheating piece of animal dung! Then she’s divorced and hating her life, but pushing on like a trooper because you got to keep on keeping on, you know?
Then we have Kian. Hot and loyal Irish family man…up until the very lucrative American slave trade busts upon his town, then he’s a very lonely hard working American slave. A chance encounter with a vamp and now we have hot brooding Kian, a lonely vampire in modern times.
Darcy needs a job, he needs an assistant, she applies, shows up to the interview and boom, instant connection. Not a fan of insta-love, but it helps that she looks a lot like his dead wife from back in his human days. And it’s not really love at first sight, but lust that turns into something more…
Telling you any more would spoil the show, but suffice to say there is much tension, some very real relationship business and some action as well. Very good read.

Ireland – 1654
Kian MacTiernan’s jaw pulsed as he squeezed his eyes shut and bowed his head, letting his shoulder-length hair fall forward, hiding his pained expression. He fisted his hands, and the rope tying his wrists together behind his back burned his skin. The chain around his ankles kept him from running. He could do nothing.
That morning’s breakfast rose into his throat, burning all the way up, leaving a bitter taste in his mouth. His wife stood less than four feet from him, tied at the hands and feet as he was. He no longer heard his wife’s cries because his thundering heart drowned out everything else, but he could see her yelling, calling to him. He saw her mouth moving, her face streaked with tears, and her body twisting to free itself from her captor’s clutch.
“Let her go!” he bellowed.
His mouth was his only weapon, and a powerless one at that. He wanted to destroy, to maim, to break limbs. The blood coursing through his veins heated his face. He lunged forward, but the rope tied around his neck went taut, yanking him backward and onto the wet ground.
The English bastard at the end of the tether laughed deeply. “Where do ye think ye’re going?” The Englishman hauled the lead straight up. His metallic gray eyes twinkled with enjoyment as he looked down at Kian.
Kian gagged and his eyes bulged as the rope squeezed his throat. He stumbled to his knees, easing the tension around his neck. Once on his feet, he glared at his captors. Someday he would kill these devils, he thought.
